Beech wood Chracteristics

Considering red heart

Red heart in beech does not impair the wood’s mechanical characteristics.
Once steamed, beech takes a darker uniform colour going from a pinky to a dark red colour.

Preservation:

Beech's heartwood durability is reduced with respect to bad weather
However, as beech is easily impregnated, it can be use in class 4 (timber in contact with water) after treatment.

Finally, other markets for beech are manufacturing of plywood and packaging.

ILLUSTRATED CLASSIFICATION OF ROUND LOGS

Beech Logs / (A Grade to D Grade)

For Beech log, we mainly grade by red-heart diameter and fresh quality (mainly base on discoloration). The diameter of logs is 30cm & up x length 3 meter up.

1 - For A grade: Using for veneer slicing. Almost no red-heart, the red-heart contain maximum 20% of diameter, straight log, fresh cut log, no discoloration under bark and both ends of logs.

2 - For B grade: using for making rotary veneer. A little red-heart, contain around 30% of log diameter, straight, little discoloration both ends of logs (Around 10 cm on length of each end).

3 - For B/C & C grade: This is grade which is selling with big quantity for sawmill to cut, steam & dry for furniture industry. There is no limitation of red-heart for this grade. There is not much discoloration on both ends of log (Around 20 cm on length of each end).

4 - For D grade: This is the lowest quality grade. There is no defects limitation. Accept bending, cracking, discoloration. We use this grade for firewood, palette, finger-joint board, core of engineering door & floor.

Note that for all grade, our logs grade on quality & must be strong wood. Any rotten wood shall be rejected or deduct from quantity of shipment.
